Airpower Unlimited


    Airpower Unlimited, LLC started business in March of 1988 in Twin Falls, Idaho and one year later moved to their current location in Jerome, Idaho it was started by John and Nancy Lane.

John was no stranger to the business of warbird restoration and maintenance.  He was a founding member of the Arizona Wing of the Confederate Air Force at Falcon Field, restoring, maintaining and flying the B-17G Sentimental Journey. He was also the Director of Maintenance and Restoration for Champlin Fighter Museum in Mesa, Arizona.

In addition to John’s skills as a restoration specialist, he has flown aerial tankers, holds a Reciprocating Flight Engineers’ Rating for Constellations and the B-29’s-FIFI and Fertile Myrtle, has an unlimited letter from the FAA to fly all makes and models single and multi-engine Piston powered aircraft. John is a check airman for the Fighter Formation Qualification Program. John has served as crew chief for Reno Air Race planes and worked on numerous movie and a TV series. John’s interest stems back to his father, John H. Shady” Lane, who was a six victory “Ace”  in the Pacific, flying P-39’s, P-38’s and P-47’s out of New Guinea.

Airpower Unlimited, LLC is known worldwide for their quality restorations…best known for Corsairs. Airpower has done numerous projects and maintenance over the years. A few highlights include:

FG1D Corsair owned by “The Seattle Museum of Flight”, This Corsair spent 33 years at the bottom of Lake Washington.

 TBM 3E Avenger (308) N7226C , Following  John’s research, he learned this aircraft sank 2 Japanese ships,  a light cruiser the “OYODO” and a destroyer the “Nashi” on the same day with two separate crews, in Kure Harbor  July 28,  1945!  A 1996 Oshkosh World War 2 Grand Champion Warbird, Airpower received the Golden Wrench Award. Airplane is now owned and flown by Texas Flying Legends.

 TF Mustang, SN 472922,  SCAT V11 – restored from the wreckage of Scat VII , American Fighter pilot, Robin Olds  airplane, started by another company but eventually came to John and was totally taken down and returned back  in Triple “Ace”  Robin Olds marking for a Seattle business man. This airplane now is in Antwerp, Belgian.

 FG-1D Corsair (92106)  won  2003 Grand Champion, World War 2,  Warbird at the EAA Airshow, Airpower received the Golden Wrench Award, also awarded the People’s Choice Award at the Rolls Royce Invitational Reno Air Races the same year!  This aircraft was honored to be “Show Center” for the Thunderbirds 50th Anniversary at Nellis Air Force Base.   This Airplane was in all the episodes of the TV series Baa Baa Black Sheep.

  FG-ID Corsair (92489) Kathleen after being rescued out of El Salvador by Frank Arrufat.   In 2010, it won Grand Champion Warbird at the EAA Airshow, and Airpower received the Golden Wrench Award.  This aircraft was a participant in the El Salvador “Great Soccer War”.  This airplane is also now owned and flown by Texas Flying Legends.

  FG-1D Corsair (115) owned by the Olympic Flight Museum, this Corsair won the 2015 Post World War 2 Grand Champion award at EAA Airshow, giving Airpower the coveted Golden Wrench Award! Invited to the Heritage Invitational held at the Reno Air Races, won the National Hall of Fame Trophy, People’s Choice Award, along with the Henry “Hap” Arnold Trophy!
